This is a selection of images that is all about recycling and consumerism. This cannot be a critique, as I am a product of a society that makes judgements on the value of material goods. Instead it is inspired by my continued fascination by what is deemed as rubbish, how society deals with it, and the consumers’ decision to discard previous purchases that were potentially once cherished and loved.
The men featured in my portraits are the arbiters, the judges of waste. They decide the final destination of consumers detritus. They sift through the thrown away, rearrange where necessary, to make sure that the materials and objects are in the correct bin. Their policing of the thrown away deserves the recognition. In many ways they are the disenfranchised, the ignored, their decisions, their judgements can lead the visitor to feel frustrated as they queue to discard their un-cherished memories.
